Play reading opportunity

A message from Cedric Porter:
“I am looking for anyone who might be interested in taking part in a play reading to mark the millennium of the martyrdom of St Alfege in Greenwich.
The murder of the Archbishop of Canterbury by Viking raiders was the 9/11 of its day, sending shockwaves throughout Christian Western Europe and having a huge influence on the development of the inclusive English poltiical system we still have today.
My play Swordwater tries to explore these and other issues but I was unable to raise the funding needed for a production at Greenwich Playhouse whose landlords have also refused to renew their lease.
The play reading will take place at St James Church, in St James, New Cross on Saturday June 2 at 5pm as one of the events accompanying a Jubilee street party being organised there by New Cross Learning – the former Library.
I worked as arts and entertainments editor on the South London Press for 30 years and can be contacted on  or, email: .
With thanks,
Cedric Porter”
